Welcome to Growing Into Kinship.

In this space, I hope to share brief weekly-ish reflections on the journey of growing into kinship. Growing into shalom: a rich word from the Hebrew scriptures that speaks to active, holistic peacemaking, the kind marked by justice so that all can flourish.

I’m here for the journey of becoming people who live in mutual, loving relationships with fellow beings of all sorts, that our whole interconnected Earth community might heal. If you’re here for that too, I’m glad.

I come with a post-evangelical, progressive Christian perspective, but you are welcome to come with whatever perspectives you bring. We need one another on the journey.

I have the privilege of spending a ton of time reading: mostly nonfiction, mostly women authors, authors of color, and especially women of color authors. For white folks (like me) hoping to learn a whole different way of being in this white supremacist patriarchal world, learning from people on the underside of our society’s power structures is essential.

I’m excited to share what I’m learning and have a conversation about it together. Please don’t hesitate to hop in those comments.

If you like what you read here, consider taking a look at my first book, Nice Churchy Patriarchy: Reclaiming Women’s Humanity from Evangelicalism (released Dec 2023 from Apocryphile Press). I’d also love to connect via Instagram, if you’re into that sort of thing: @lizcoolj and @postevangelicalprayers.

And if you want to get in touch via email, please feel free to send a message to growingintokinship@substack.com and I’ll do my best to respond.

Thank you for being here.
